The Opportunity

Chiltern Music Therapy is an award-winning, not-for-profit Music Therapy organisation working with individuals and groups of all ages in schools, homes, hospitals and hospices and within the community. We specialise in Brain Injury and Neuro-disability and have an exciting research programme, offering therapists the opportunity to take part in innovative pilots and studies.

We are an experienced team working in diverse settings using both Music Therapy and Neurologic Music Therapy approaches (as applicable) and offer the perfect environment for Music Therapists who value being part of a supportive and interactive organisation. Since its inception in 2011, Chiltern Music Therapy has grown from strength to strength and now delivers services throughout much of England, from Bristol to Norwich, Brighton to Manchester and everywhere in between, with a concentration in Greater London and the home counties.

We now have an increasing demand for our services in the central Buckinghamshire area, specifically with the ability to travel in and around High Wycombe, Chesham and Aylesbury and would like to appoint a qualified Neurologic Music Therapist, for 3 days a week with a view to increase hours subject to demand.  This role will be offered as a PAYE contract. It is essential for candidates to have NMT training to incorporate Neurologic Music Therapy work.

Organisational structure

Over the last 18 months, Chiltern Music Therapy has adopted a new way of working, taking away traditional hierarchy and introducing self-managing teams. Our teams work collaboratively to support our communities while at the same time valuing each other for our individuality and different experiences that we all bring to the organisation. We encourage and support all team members to participate in decision-making and business development as well as personal development in areas of their choice. A full induction about self-managing teams and our way of working will be available to the successful candidate.

Salary and Hours

  • 3 day per week which may be worked across multiple days to suit all parties.
  • Salary/fee range £28,000 - £30,500, pro-rata, per annum depending on experience.

Role and conditions

You will be required to take on individual and / or group Music Therapy sessions in multiple settings including schools, rehabilitation centres, hospitals, clients’ homes and residential care settings.

  • You must have use of a car and be a confident driver as sessions will be in several locations throughout the day.
  • You must have HCPC registration, membership with BAMT and a DBS check. 
  • This role will require use of Neurologic Music Therapy techniques.
  • Attendance at monthly pod meetings.

What Chiltern Music Therapy is looking for

The successful candidate will need to be approachable, enthusiastic and motivated, and show a good understanding of Music Therapy in a variety of settings. You will be experienced in, or willing to, work using a range of Music Therapy approaches and models, including Neurologic Music Therapy. You will use formal assessment tools and outcome measures in Music Therapy work and be happy to evaluate, present and feedback details of cases to parents, staff teams and other professionals as required. You will be proactive in communicating with clients, carers, relatives and management, which is a key element to the success of the service. Demonstrating confidence in working within a multidisciplinary team is also essential.
