Jamming Group - West Sussex

The digital jamming group was run by Music Therapist Natasha Larkin and supported by a West Sussex Mind support worker. The sessions took place in a very challenging time but offered a vital support space using music.

The group welcomed 11 unique service users to the sessions. At the end of the project, the group expressed how beneficial the weekly jamming group had been to them and how it had helped them to cope with the ongoing isolation and changes during the third UK lockdown.

The group song focused on hope, motivation and new beginnings, lyrics created together and recorded by the service users. Throughout the project the group members expressed how engaging in the group and music sharing helped to:

  • Reduce stress and anxiety, improving mood, and helped to feel hopeful about the future
  • Reduced feelings of isolation
  • Helped to build confidence and reduce social anxiety
  • Offered structure in their week
