Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Music Therapy

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion affects all areas of music therapy practice, but it can sometimes feel difficult to know where to start or how to progress. This lecture will help to highlight the blind spots and biases we may have as individuals and collectively as a profession, to recognise the barriers we might face and to actively problem solve so that we can make positive change for our clients, communities and peers. The lecture will cover the following:

  • Introduction to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) – what is EDI, why it is important, basic principles;
  • Inclusive Music Therapy Practice – restructuring and integrating our thinking on the past, present and future of the music therapy profession;

Whether you are feeling lost and a novice to EDI issues, or if you have much experience and knowledge in this area, this event will help to offer direction and guidance for your professional development. We welcome Music Therapists of all backgrounds and the training will aim to be user-led and inclusive, so please do let us know if we need to be aware of any adjustments to help make this accessible.
