Online Music Therapy Group Guidelines

We’re really pleased to welcome you to your music therapy group.

Our aim is to create a safe, friendly space where you can enjoy music, connect with others, and work towards your goals.

Below are some simple guidelines to help you get the most from each session and to make sure everyone feels comfortable and supported.

Accessing the sessions online

  • Sessions will be held on zoom.  Zoom is free to download.  If you don’t already have access to zoom you can download it on https://www.zoom.com/?lang=en-US.  You will  need to create an account.

Before the session

  • Wear comfy clothes so you can relax.
  • Have a drink nearby – water is best, but tea or coffee is fine too.
  • Check your device - make sure it’s charged, your camera and microphone are working, and your internet connection is on.
  • Turn off alerts on your device.
  • Join a little early - this gives time to check everything and to start together.
  • Keep instruments nearby if you have them - or anything you can use to make sound.  Don’t worry if you don’t have any, we’re mainly going to use our voices.

During the session

  • There’s no right or wrong - everyone’s abilities are different, and that’s okay.
  • Go at your own pace - if you need a break or something is difficult, let your therapist know.
  • You can ask for help - you can speak, use gestures, write in the chat box, or let us know afterwards.
  • Confidentiality matters - please don’t record or share anything from the session.
  • Be patient, respectful of other group members  and supportive - allow extra time for each other to speak or respond.

If you need support

  • If you can’t join the session or have any problems, contact us on info@chilternmusictherapy.co.uk.
  • If you lose connection during the session, try clicking the link again to rejoin.

Extra tips

  • Feel free to use communication aids (e.g., pictures or writing) during the session.
  • If you don’t understand something, ask the therapist to repeat, slow down, or show visually.
  • You are welcome to have a family member, friend, or support worker nearby if it helps you take part.
  • Remember: This is your space to connect, enjoy music, and express yourself in whatever way works best for you.
