Service Report - Moseley Hall Hospital

This report details the impacts of Neurologic Music Therapy® during an 11-week project at Moseley Hall's Inpatient Neurologic Rehabilitation Unit.

20 April 2026

Across 2023 and 2024, Chiltern Music Therapy provided a 30-week Neurologic Music Therapy® (NMT™) pilot at a Birmingham Outpatient Brain Injury Unit. Project data showed positive impact on functional outcomes, with 86% of patients who accessed NMT™ achieving their rehab goals.

A post-pilot event was hosted to raise awareness of the project and further highlight impact. This prompted wider discussions with Trust therapists and interest for an NMT™ project earlier in the rehab pathway, which in turn inspired an 11-week follow-on project on Moseley Hall's Inpatient Neurologic Rehabilitation Unit.

This report summarises the practices, outcomes and feedback of that project.

"I have enjoyed attending the sessions with one of my patients, and it is clear she has also enjoyed the sessions. Whilst I couldn’t understand the language spoken by the therapist and patient (I wish I was bilingual!), it was interesting to observe my patient following commands and models in different functional tasks, so helped me to informally assess their receptive skills." - Speech & Language Therapist
