Whittington NICU Service Report - Year 2

Following a successful first year of music therapy at Whittington Hospital's neonatal intensive care unit, our latest service report highlights the further positive impacts of the program from 2025-26.

20 April 2026

This report summarises the second year of Music Therapy at the Whittington Hospital, on the Neonatal Wards. The service is generously funded by BBC Children in Need, and delivered in collaboration with Chiltern Music Therapy by NICU Music Therapist, Amanda Dickson.

82 unique patients have been seen, within a total of 145 sessions across the neonatal intensive care unit, the high dependency unit and the special care baby unit.

Through tailored questionnaires and feedback provided both verbally and on our feedback cards, we've collated evidence of the impact of our service, which we've included in the report alongside case studies and a more in-depth overview of the approaches and tecnhiques used.

Responses from the staff survey gladly report that the music therapy service benefits infants and families widely across patient demographics and needs, as well as supporting the wellbeing of staff.
