How Music Therapy works
Online music therapy is delivered by HCPC-registered Music Therapists, who use music intentionally to support each person’s needs and goals. The focus is not on musical skill or performance.
One-to-one sessions are shaped around the individual and may include singing, rhythm, improvisation, songwriting or listening to music to support communication, wellbeing, movement or rehabilitation.
Our online groups bring people together through shared music-making, helping to build confidence, connection and a sense of belonging.
Sessions are adapted to each person, and no musical experience or special equipment is needed.
Our Therapists may also use Neurologic Music Therapy™ techniques online to work towards goals involving movement, speech, cognition and coordination.
Who can benefit from our services?
Online music therapy can support people of all ages and with a wide range of needs. It may be particularly helpful for:
- People who find traveling or attending sessions in person difficult
- People who do not have access to a Music Therapist in their local area
- People living with disabilities, health conditions, fatigue or limited mobility
- People recovering from a stroke, brain injury or neurological condition
- People with communication difficulties, including aphasia
- Children and adults with additional or complex needs
- People who feel isolated or would benefit from connecting with others
- People looking for support with confidence, emotional expression or wellbeing
It can also help someone continue receiving support when they are temporarily unable to attend sessions in person.

Why Music Therapy Matters
Health, mobility, location, transport and caring responsibilities can all make it difficult for people to access support in person.
Online music therapy can help remove some of these barriers. It allows people to take part from a familiar space at home, while still building a meaningful relationship with their Therapist and working towards goals that matter to them.
Online music therapy can support:
- Communication, speech and rehabilitation
- Emotional expression and wellbeing
- Confidence, motivation and self-esteem
- Social interaction and connection
- Reduced isolation
- Greater flexibility for individuals and families
- Continued support when attending in person is not possible
- Reduced travel for clients, families and Therapists
Online sessions will not be the right choice for everyone, but for many people they offer an accessible and valuable way to experience music therapy.
