We’re pleased to be launching a new music therapy jamming group in Chesham, building on the success of our long-running group in High Wycombe.
The High Wycombe group has been running since 2013 and continues to offer a consistent, supportive space for people living with a range of mental health challenges. The group has developed over time, with some members attending for many years and others joining more recently, creating a sense of familiarity alongside opportunities for new connections.
What to Expect
Sessions are led by our music therapist Jim and follow a structure that supports both creativity and connection. A typical session might include:
- Group improvisation using instruments such as guitar, keyboard and percussion
- Opportunities to listen to and share meaningful music
- Time for check-in and reflection
- Light activities that support social interaction
This structure helps create a space where people can feel grounded, while still having the freedom to explore and express themselves musically . No previous musical experience is needed.
The Difference it Makes
Over time, we’ve seen people grow in confidence and feel more comfortable expressing themselves within the group. Members often begin to form social connections, and in some cases these relationships continue outside of sessions, helping to reduce isolation.
As one volunteer shared:
The Jamming Group creates a safe, welcoming space where members can build confidence, develop creative skills, and form meaningful social connections. I’ve seen participants grow in self-belief over time and become more comfortable expressing themselves and supporting one another.

Opening up Access in Chesham
Interest in the High Wycombe group has remained strong, with consistent attendance and increasing referrals. Starting a new group in Chesham will help us respond to this demand and offer more people access to a music therapy-led space within their local community.
The new group will run on Thursday afternoons at the White Hill Centre in Chesham.
